Winter Park DH video #1- ShyAnn to Long Trail to Boot Camp
This is your best choice for a first run, either for the day, or the first run of your life. Everything is roll-able, but it is still a fun, fun trail. Fast and flowy. There is a quick left off of ShyAnn to Double Jeopardy, more of a blue technical trail, but for starters, stay on this ShyAnn/Long Trail/Boot Camp combo.
Riders often miss Long Trail coming off of ShyAnn into the Five Points trail junction. It is the third section of Long Trail that you are trying to pick up. There is a short uphill hike-a-bike (or pedal) up the hill to get back on Long Trail. Coming off of ShyAnn, it is the hill to your immediate left. Get up there, because Long Trail as a whole is excellent.
Long Trail is fast, flowy, easy, and just a lot of fun. Some great forest single track. You can go back to the top of the lift and hit ALL of Long Trail, the first two sections are also fun, but this three trail combo here is usually where I like to start the day.
I always skip the last piece of Long Trail as well. It is a good sized climb off the fire road, and really, I am not climbing anything I don’t have too! I roll the fire road at that point, make the right after the gate, and head to Boot Camp.
Boot Camp is a designated “black” run, but this is Winter Park, not Keystone, and it is blue at best. It is also completely roll-able, and fine for all skill levels. The jumps and features are all easily bypassed or just roll right over them. It is a FAR SUPERIOR choice to rolling the fire road all the way down. Don’t stop on the Boot Camp trail, there are other riders coming through all the time, but don’t skip it in fear either, it is a simple and fun trail.
