Winter Park resort opened for the 2009 biking season today, June 13th, in Winter Park Colorado.

Weather was fantastic, not too sunny, no rain. Not all the trails were open, perhaps only half, as it is at the start of every season, but it looks to be a great DH season at Winter Park.

Lots of new trails going live this year. One was open today, Free Speech, with some wood features, wood doubles, wood rollers, once it is completely dry, it is going to be a fun trail. Double Jeopardy is another fun new trail, as is Bear Arms. Jump Trail, No Quarter, and some others will be open soon.

Quite a few mud spots today, but those will dry up soon. Since Keystone is not yet open, there were quite a few riders up, including perhaps 15 riders from Mojo Wheels.

Winter Park has a different trail style then Sol Vista, 30 minutes down the road, or Keystone. Winter Park is real flowy, and not many tech sections. Only the Trestle Downhill race course rivals the difficulty of the single black Keystone trails. But I dig it nonetheless, I really enjoy riding the Winter Park trails, and that is where I get my season pass.

Winter Park is a great spot for beginner bikers, whether XC, trail or DH, so if you are in the area, or can afford the time to drive 1.5 hours from Denver, check it out.
